Fludd, Derrick (composer) (1963- ), American composer and recording artist, born in Sarasota, Florida, and educated at School of Visual Arts. He served as director of music for Dancing Hands Performance Group (1987-1988) He began performing at the age of thirteen and has done music for independent film and public television.
Essentially classical in style, his music is versatile and experimental he uses acoustic and electronic instrumentation to create a new blend of warm melodic works. He frequently refers to his works as improvisational rather than notating the music he will set in motion complex compositions and then layer responses to the first track. This allows independent musicianship and interpretation keeping each work unique and experimental. His unique approach to music, and the wide range of his compositions, including piano works, choral works, orchestral works, opera, guitar works, and works for string ensemble have made Fludd an interest to the musical community. Fludd has collaborated with many musicians over the years and has done improvisational works with noted Avant-Garde guitarist Johnny Asia. His Brother David Fludd is also a musician and performing artist.
